Experience the charm and sophistication of French music with Glig-Veress duo. This superb program for clarinet and piano includes works by Grandval, Gaubert, Rabaud, Saint-Saens, Debussy and Poulenc.
Let us take you on a musical journey to France. From Romantic French music through Impressionism to the first half of the 20th century, discover gems like those by female composer Clémence de Grandval, competition pieces by Rabaud, Gaubert, Debussy and masterpieces sometimes culminating a life time's work by Debussy, Saint-Saëns, and Poulenc.
The competition pieces for the Paris Conservatory demonstrate the clarinet's challenging technical capabilities and its musical beauty. These pieces pose immense challenges. The difficulties include a number of significant technical obstacles, tests of endurance, breath control, and subtleties of tone, intonation, and nuance.
Masterpieces like the Sonatas for Clarinet and Piano by Saint-Saëns and Poulenc, and the Premiere Rhapsodie by Debussy are the culmination of a lifetime's work.
The concert is part of Cobb’s Hill Music Series and will be held at Unitarian Church of Barnstable.
