Arthur Dimond, a native of Brooklyn, NY, began taking piano lessons at the age of six with his mother’s teacher, Gertrude Kovacs, one of the last of the generation that made piano “house calls.”

As a student at the University of Pennsylvania, he took a hiatus from lessons, but continued to play, on his own and as accompanist for the Glee Club.

Following Peace Corps service in Turkey, where he periodically found a piano to practice on in the most surprising places, he eventually settled in Washington, DC, where he resumed lessons with Willis Bennett, a member of the American University music department. After moving to Boston for work in the public relations field, he bought his first “serious” grand piano, and explored new musical opportunities, first in a chamber music group, and ultimately in lessons with Kevin McGinty at the All Newton Music School. During this period, he has performed in several recitals focused on the works of Schumann and Brahms, monthly “soirees” of the Boston Piano Amateurs Association (BPAA), regular gigs at Symphony Hall’s BSO Café, frequent appearances at Open Mic Classical, and last summer, in his first piano competition— BPAA’s Boston International Piano Competition.

Our collaborative pianist of the day Elizabeth Hughes Tipton is a native of Wisconsin, holding graduate degrees in performance from the Juilliard School of Music with post graduate work at Columbia Teachers college in N.Y.C. After a thirty year career as performer teacher in Westfield, N.J. she moved to Cape Cod with her husband and is now on the faculty of The Cape Conservatory of Music and Art in Falmouth. She has performed extensively as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles and as a collaborative pianist in New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts.
