March 18th, 2018 OMC Featuring Schubert, and Gershwin
We are very excited to announce that our event on Sunday, March 18th, 2018 will be a very unusual event. We are featuring two composers, with two groups of musicians.
Our first composer is Schubert, featured by a piano, clarinet, and voice trio: Betty Tipton on piano, Ellen Adamson voice, and Monika Woods on clarinet. Our 2nd composer is Gershwin, featured with his famous work Rhapsody in Blue with James Rosenblum on piano solo, and Ana Glig on piano playing the orchestral accompaniment, Monika Woods on clarinet. This is a very unusual, and unique presentation of this piece. Be sure not to miss it!!!
BIOS
Pianist James Rosenblum is a classically trained amateur pianist with a wide-ranging repertoire. Mr. Rosenblum debuted as an orchestra soloist under the baton of Charles Neidich in New York in 2010, performing Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto. He has also performed as a soloist at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, and has performed demanding works such as Bach’s Goldberg Variations. He performs and has a love for the music of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Grieg, Schubert, Rachmaninoff, and Ravel.
In 2016, Mr. Rosenblum established himself as one of the top amateur pianists in the country (defined as piano not being primary income). He was a finalist in the New York radio station WQXR Classical Moonlighters Competition, open to all classical artists of any instrument in New York City. Later that year, he earned a finalist spot in the three-round Chicago Amateur Piano Competition, one of the premier amateur competitions in the country.
James Rosenblum is a graduate of Yale University (2002) and Columbia Law School (2008), and holds degrees in Political Science and Law (J.D.). He has studied piano privately with Julian Martin of the Juilliard School, Arkady Aronov of the Manhattan School of Music, Melvin Chen of Bard College, Sara Laimon, and Evelyne Crochet, among others. He has studied at summer festivals such as Aspen, the Mannes Beethoven Institute, and Tel-Hai with Jean-David Coen, Jose Ribera, and Israeli pedagogue Tomer Lev. He has taught master classes in Georgia, his wife’s home country. He is married to pianist Ana Glig, and in 2017, they moved to Harwich, MA, where they now live together with their son, Edward, and dog, Godiva. James is licensed to practice law in New York and Massachusetts and is currently employed at Senie & Associates, P.C., practicing land use law. He has been quoted in the Cape Cod Times for his work.
Pianist Ana Glig holds a Master’s degree in piano performance from Mannes College, The New School of Music and Bachelor’s degree from Tbilisi State Conservatory (Georgia). She studied with Victor Rosenbaum, Jerome Rose and Revaz Tavadze.
In 2017, Ana completed an Advanced Certificate in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from NYU Steinhardt (New York University), where she studied with Artist Faculty member Eteri Abdjaparidze. For the past two years, Ms. Glig has also served as a member of the adjunct piano faculty at NYU Steinhardt.Georgian/American pianist Ana Glig (Gligvashvili) has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at concert venues such as Steinway Hall, the NYC Consulate General of Poland, the Ukrainian Institute of America, Bohemian National Hall, Columbia University’s Faculty House and Roone Arledge Auditorium and Consulate of Germany (New York), Subculture, NYU Frederick Loewe and Black Box Theaters, Mannes Concert Halls (New York, NY), and the Church of the Redeemer (Morristown, NJ). Ana Glig has performed internationally in Germany, Estonia, Georgia, Poland and Israel.
As a soloist, Ana made her debuts with Rishon LeZion and Evgeni Mikeladze Symphonic Orchestras (Israel and Georgia). Prizewinner of the Tel-Hai International Piano Concerto Competition (Israel) and Georgian Musician-Performers Competition, among others, Ana received the Alfred Cortot Award for the interpretation of Romantic music at the Tbilisi International Piano Competition.
In January 2018, Ana was featured at our Open Mic classical with presenting Liszt’s Années de pèlerinage, integrating Liszt’s piano works with paintings by Courbet, Corot, Amberg etc.
Singer, cellist, nyckelharpa player, Ellen Adamson has a Masters in Vocal Performance and has appeared with Opera Omaha and Texas Tech Opera. She studied cello with Margaret Brooke and with Charles Baker at North Texas Univ. Ellen has performed in Orchestras in seven states and currently plays in the Falmouth Chamber Players. She is also a Swedish Nyckelharpa performer and lecturer.
Pianist Elizabeth Hughes Tipton, a native of Wisconsin, holds graduate degrees in performance from the Juilliard School of Music with post graduate work at Columbia Teachers college in N.Y.C. After a thirty year career as performer teacher in Westfield, N.J. she moved to Cape Cod with her husband and is now on the faculty of The Cape Cod Conservatory of Music and Art in Falmouth. She has performed extensively as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles and as a collaborative pianist in New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts. Elizabeth lives in Eastham on First Encounter Beach with her husband.

Clarinetist Mónika Woods received her musical training at the prestigiuos Gh. Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania where she graduated with high honors and a Masters in Stylistics of Clarinet Performance.
An adventurer and dedicated lover of lilting melodies, soon she was playing Mozart duets on the streets of Provincetown on days off between summer-abroad jobs, and not long after that was performing at exhibits, benefit concerts, Cape churches, and as a featured clarinet soloist with the Chatham Chorale. In 2013, the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra sponsored New England Concerto Competition featured her as a guest soloist at their Virtuosos concert, where she became the first prize winner, the public's favourite: "The Soloist".
Mónika teaches multiple levels on multiple instruments, she loves to be diving into music from a variety of angles, and is grateful to live in a place that appreciates the arts. Working with her husband on media productions has allowed Mónika to continue her trajectory with modern media production tools, together they have the ability to produce world class recordings.
"Inspiring Blue Zone Communities" is Monika's most current project which includes: Open Mic Classical, which she co-founded, and launched in 2015. Open Mic Classical is a monthly event bringing together classical musicians of all levels, and ages to support, and learn from each other, giving a chance to classical musicians from all walks of life to be able to perform in public. We are bringing you Open Mic Classical, a new experience in classical music, to help our community's musicians share their music with a friendly, supportive and appreciative audience.
Are you a doctor with a classical horn habit, or an orchestra member who misses playing in small ensembles? Are you an aspiring young student who doesn't ever get a chance to play with a pianist, but would like to develop your performing skills? Or a composer eager to try out your newest work?
Dust off your flugelhorn, oil your keys, drink your raw egg, and come share your talent in an intimate and casual atmosphere.
Admission is donation based, and classical musicians of all ages and levels are welcome.
Pianist on site is available on request to accompany you.
“Open Mic Classical” is brought to you by clarinetist Mónika Woods (winner of the Cape Symphony's 2013 Soloist Competition) and amateur violist and sculptor Robert Marcus, with a great list of collaborative pianists including Lucy Banner, Ana Glig, Anne Perrault, Elizabeth Tipton, Sylvia Karkush Furash.
It is held at 3:00 pm on the third Sunday of the month October through June at the Brewster Meeting House (1969 Main Street on Route 6A). Participants are asked to sign up in an email or by phone, not later than in at 2:30pm on the day of the event, rehearsal with pianist on request a 1-2 weeks before the event.
